One of the many fun elements to shooting animals is their spontaneity. Sometimes the best photos form when they do their own thing and you find them in their favorite hiding place or looking for the only sun spot in the room.
I find that their eyes tell many stories. They look at you with such wonder and curiosity. Candid photography consumes the eye with questions of what is and what are a person doing/thinking. Using this concept with animals I started to think more of their idea and behavoirs towards a camera.
After working and volunteering with animal shelters around the country I learned how to read their behaviors and attempt to understand what it is they want. Sometimes photographing them you are unable to see those meanings and gestures and I hoped to capture that.
